It's going to be owl-right

For this card, I used my Koi watercolor paints on watercolor cardstock. I painted some blue stripes and let that dry.

I stamped the owl onto watercolor paper and colored him with the Koi watercolor paints.

I love this owl!

My first gel press card

So I have never tried making a gel press card before and I got an email from Unity Stamps the other day about how easy it was so I decided to give it a try. Then, I remembered Frugal Crafter Lindsay had made a you tube video doing it, so I watched hers too. You can see hers here.  Its fun!!

For the challenge at Inkspirational, we had to make a card in 10 minutes or less. I think it took me longer to cut out the dog than it did make the actual card but I got it done right at 10 minutes.

I made this for a friend who recently had hand surgery.

Fa La La La Llama

For this card, I used the grid technique with my Koi watercolors that I learned from the online watercolor class with Kristina Werner. I'm thinking now maybe I should've left a few spots white and not colored everything in but I have it done, so here it is ... For the llama, I used my Tombow markers to color directly onto the stamp, spritzed it with water and stamped it onto watercolor paper and let dry.

Birthday wishes flamingo style

Hand Stamped Sentiments - Challenge #294
Always Happy Birthday - July challenge - Optional birthday cake
Traumfabrik - The Beach
Cards in Envy - On the Beach

This background was created by making tiny squares with a ruler and then watercoloring each square and letting each square dry before moving onto the next color. I learned this in an online watercolor class last week with Kristina Werner. It was a really fun class and we learned so much!! You can still sign up for her class here, even though its past the time we did it. You can take the class whenever you want.

You can see how I made this girl float in the pool

Day 5 - Simply Watercolor Class with Kristina Werner

Today was the last day of our watercolor card class with Kristina Werner and it was all about flowers and leaves. I really love how they all came out. Again, no stamps. Just watercolor.

I sure had a great time all week learning all about watercolors. This is what I learned:

1) It's important to use painters tape to hold your card down when applying watercolor. It really does help with the warping.

2) Just have fun with it. Don't OVERTHINK it!

3) A heat tool really DOES help speed up the drying process.

4) Your watercolor paper CAN make a difference so make sure you get a good quality watercolor paper.

5) Watercolor brushes also make a world of difference! I was completely clueless before this class that there are many different types of brushes.

6)  Kristina Werner is the best teacher ever!!

Day 4 - Simply Watercolor Class with Kristina Werner

Today is Day 4 of our online watercolor class with Kristina Werner. It's all about landscapes and nature. Again, no stamps. Just watercolor and paints.

I will be honest and say I was scared to do these but once I got them done, I think they came out ok. (The jury is still out on the sky scene with the stars. LOL)

Colorful Pineapple

I learned this watercolor grid technique from my online watercolor class with Kristina Werner this week and I wanted to try it out with this pineapple stamp for this week's challenge at City Crafter.

Day Three - Simply Watercolor Class with Kristina Werner

So today was day 3 of the Simply Watercolor class and I would say this was more of a challenge for me as I haven't always loved my own handwriting.  Here are the cards I did.

She had us print off a big letter in different fonts and then color them using water and watercolor paints. I did learn how the paint color moves on your paper once you put your paint onto wet paper. I decided to print off the word MOM and I used my Microsoft word and made the font size to be 150 and it was the "Aharoni" typeset. Then I just wrote Happy Birthday over top. It's perfect for mom's birthday in September.

Stamps by Taylored Expressions
I love this grumpy bear by Taylored Expressions. When my local stamp store went out of business last year, I had to grab this set up because it has the cutest images with sayings in it. I don't think I've even used the stamp set yet until now but I had to have it!! You know how it is, right????

Anyway, I used my Tim Holtz Oxides ink onto watercolor paper. I just set each ink pad onto the paper and squirted some water to get this cool watercolor background. I used: Worn Lipstick, Blueprint Sketch, Wilted Violet, Cracked Pistachio and Squeezed Lemonade.

Day Two - Simply Watercolor Class with Kristina Werner Cards 1-3

For today's online watercolor lesson, we learned how to draw simple animals and critters. Well, let's just say this cat was not easy but I think I mastered him "ok". No stamps, just used watercolors, a Sharpie marker, a fine line Zig marker and white acrylic paint in spots.

This card is 5x7 and was a "bonus card".
I need to work on my shading :).
